Two lengths
A 7-day self-drive stays in the north. Use the first days for Muscat and the coast in a normal car. Then take a 4x4 toward Jebel Akhdar, Jebel Shams, or Wahiba Sands. Wadi Shab can replace a mountain day if you want a paved drive and a walk.
A 10-day self-drive adds Salalah. The Muscat to Salalah distance is about 1,000 kilometres on the paved highway, so allow a full day each way. It is not an afternoon stop on the 7-day plan.
