When to drive
The best time to visit Oman for a self-drive from Muscat is October to April. The days are warm, and the highways to the mountains, the wadis, and the desert are the normal way to travel.
May to September is very hot on the northern coast and in the desert. Salalah is the exception: khareef, usually late June through early September, is when those hills turn green.
